Proclaim Praises

By, Hollie Vaughn

“And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us. And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger. And when they had seen it, they made known abroad the saying which was told them concerning this child. And all they that heard it wondered at those things which were told them by the shepherds. And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told unto them.”
Luke 2:8, 15-18, 20

The shepherds were ordinary men doing their ordinary work when something extraordinary happened. They were personally told about the birth of the newborn King, Jesus. With this news, they immediately left their flock and headed out to find Him.

God didn’t send an angel to tell the royals of that time. He didn’t send word to the rich and famous. He wanted the “everyday” man to know about His Son.

We can learn from the shepherds. With this amazing news brought immediate action for the shepherds. We sit in church services every week and here from God. He sends His message through the pastor, the shepherd of the flock. We have opportunity after opportunity to be brought to action. These actions usually start at an altar and then are followed through in our everyday lives.

Like the shepherds, when we meet Jesus personally (which we do through salvation) we will leave changed!! The shepherds returned to their everyday life, but they were different. It was evident because of how much they voiced praises to God.

During this Christmas season take special opportunity to give God glory and praise His name!!

Be sure to share the Gospel of Jesus.
