"Thy word is lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path."
Psalms 119:105
"But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only,
deceiving your own selves."
James 1:22
"But the word of the Lord endureth for ever.
And this is the word by which the gospel is preached unto you."
I Peter 1:25

When I open my Bible,
What do I see?
Do I hear your precious promises
Or do I just tend to read?
When I open my Bible,
What do You want me to learn?
Is there something pressing
Or a thought that I need to discern?
When I open my Bible,
Is it with joy?
Or do I check off a box
For another day more?
When I open my Bible,
I want to hear from you
But is my heart in tune
With the thoughts you would have me to learn?
When I open my Bible,
Whether late in the day,
Teach me and mold me
For I am Your clay.
I am Your child,
You are my King
Let me come to your Word
And please let me glean.
Has opening your Bible come to a place in your life where it is just another check mark for the many tasks we perform throughout the day? Does opening your Bible find your thoughts drifting off during reading? Is it just hard to do sometimes?
I was in a small Bible study group discussion with a group of ladies and many were quite vulnerable as to where they were at when it came to opening their Bible. Don’t get me wrong, we love Jesus, and we love His Word, but what is it that keeps us from it?
This had me examine my own life and my struggles as to when I would or wouldn’t open it, what I was getting out of it and how to better make my time in the Word to bring glory and honor to our Savior.
It is our lamp, and it is our light. We are to be doers and not hearers only. It gives us the Gospel, our hope for eternity.
But what is it that is keeping you from it?
